Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Poroggo are BLM type beastmen, and enjoy casting High level -ga spells and Ancient Magic.

Poroggo have several very dangerous TP moves. Water Bomb deals serious damage and the silence is very potent. This move can hurt even very high level tanks.

Frog Song Can charm the player with the most hate who is fighting the Poroggo. The only solution is to sleep the charmed person until it wears off. If a player is soloing a Poroggo and is charmed the monster will depop. The Charm is not effective on a Beastmaster's pet.

Providence is an odd TP move. The move causes no damage, but it allows, while it's in effect, for the Poroggo to cast spells that a normal BLM type monster could not normally have. Haste, Breakga, Graviga, Slowga, and Death, have all been seen.

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 65 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 68 without.
Magic Hammer is best hunted in Mamook.

This spell can be soloed at level 75 as a BLU/NIN or BLU/BST. It's much safer and easier to duo it with a Tank or small party.

Party members should have Echo Drops to deal with Water Bomb. Equipping one, or all sleep spells is mandatory for dealing with a charmed friend. Head Butt for stun should be set. Invisibility spells or powders to get to camp are needful. A warp item will save a long walk home.

Poroggo Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Poroggo 75-77 Mamook

Zone into Mamook from the Wajaom Woodlands using the entrance at D-12 on the Woodlands map. Head to the small room with a vat Viscous Liquid at G/H-7, this is a safe camp. There will be sight aggro on the way to it, so take precautions. Around the pond to the west you will find eight Poroggo. Using a ranged weapon pull one back to camp. There is sight and sound aggro from other monsters around the lake, so be careful. The frog may open with a long cast spell, so back away to your camp and wait for it to come to you. They have true hearing, but do not link.

Once the Poroggo is at camp stunning -ga and AM is key, as silence seems difficult to land on them. If a party member gets charmed, sleep them and the Poroggo immediatly, until the charm wears. Duration is not too long. Beware of Providence, the spells cast fast under it, and Death is a fight ender.

~~~
It has been reported that the spell can be soloed by a RDM or BLM using the following Strategy.
Once you pull the Poroggo back to the safe camp as described above, the Red or Black Mage will use a Sleep/Nuke method. The Blue Mage will stay back and do nothing at all, for hate reasons relating to the Charm move the Poroggo can use.
Thunder III and other lightning spells seem to never be resisted, and Sleep seems to land very well. Your helper mage can also Aspir the Poroggo for good MP returns. Since Silence is difficult to land on them, don't bother with it, Slow can be tried if you'd like to slow the Poroggo's casting speed. Don't worry about the spells that the Poroggo tries to cast. Any of the dangerous ones like the big ~ga's or AM are longer casts, and can be stopped with a sleep. As a bonus of the Sleep/Nuke style, the Poroggo will not be able to mele the attacking mage.
Keep up the Sleeps and Nukes, be careful to count the number of spells you cast on the mob. Each will give it 10% TP toward a WS. You may need to switch to lighter nukes so you do not kill the Poroggo before it uses a skill.
When the Poroggo's HP get under 25% and it has enough TP, have the Casting Mage move near the mob and let it wake (Blink and Stoneskin first!). It will cast a spell (sleep it if its a nasty one, and let it wake again) and then it will use a WS because a target is in range.
If it uses Frog Cheer, Magic Hammer, or Providence, continue sleep/nuking it until it dies. It's easier to get a new Poroggo then to nurse more then one move from them with this method.
If it uses Water Bomb the BLU will need to cast Silena on their helper, or Echo Drops should be used by the silenced mage. Kill the Poroggo.
If they use Frog Song, they won't attack the Blue Mage, because you haven't been doing anything to get on it's Hate Tree. Your friend will become charmed, the frog will then despawn, and then your friend will uncharm. It is a good idea to keep an AOE sleep or two equipped in case something does cause them to attack you. Sleep your friend and Poroggo and wait out the charm only if they make a move toward you.
It's recommended that you not Mele, as it will give the Poroggo a lot more chances to charm your helper and despawn, thus wasting time.
Poroggo Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Poroggo Gent 56-67? West Sarutabaruta [S]
An excellent camp for Magic Hammer exists in West Sarutabaruta [S]. At the locations F-4, F-11, and I-9 there are Toads. They look like normal frogs, and have no hats and staves like Poroggo's.
When the weather is foggy in West Sarutabaruta [S], which can happen between 2 and 7 game time, Two Poroggo Gents will spawn at each of the camps. No Toads need to be killed to make them pop. They will pop in addition to the Toads that are there as soon as fog happens.
The Toads are level 50-52, and have no special TP moves. BUT they do attack very fast, and they link from a very large range. So it is very easy to end up with a large number of them on you if you are not careful. Once you get more then two or three hitting you, interruptions to spells can become a real issue. They can kill even high level players with sheer numbers. Toads will link to the Gents. So be careful.
Like all Poroggo, the Gents love to cast nasty magic, and have the full range of TP moves, including Frog Song, and can fast cast Death and other unfun special spells. Deal with them as noted in Camp 1 above. The only difference being, that since these Poroggo are much lower level, solo is very possible, though if you get charmed while solo, a despawn can happen.
Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. At 75 as a /NIN or /BST in camp #1 you can. A Duo or more is safer and simpler.
Do I need any special items? Yes, Echo Drops to cure the effects of Water Bomb. Sleep and Stun Spells to deal with charm and long cast magic. Invisibility items to reach camp. Skill and luck if going solo. A warp item to save a walk home.
Do Poroggo like to use the move? It can sometimes take more then one kill to see it.
The Spell can only drain MP from targets that have MP, it will not work on the undead, and cannot drain more MP than target has. With a MND build, damage reaches into the 200's.
Magic Hammer can be paired with any of the following spells to create the Magic Attack Bonus Trait: Sound Blast, Cursed Sphere, Eyes On Me, Memento Mori, Heat Breath, or Reactor Cool
