Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Troll hoplites are the Armored Trolls. They come in Three job types; Warrior, Paladin, and Dark Knight. They all have high Defense and a lot of HP.

Enerviation lowers both Defense by about 10% and Magic Defense by 8 points. It can increase the damage you take by a noticeable bit.

The Petrifaction from Rock Smash is dangerous.

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 58 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 61 without.
Diamondhide is best hunted in the Wajaom Woodlands.

This spell can not be soloed at learn level. You will need a small party, or a skilled Level 75 solo-class (BST, NIN, RDM). A basic experience party set up will work very well. A level 70 BLU/BST Can solo the spell at camp #2.

Party members should have a way to remove Petrafication, so a White Mage is called for. Having a way to silence a monster can help. There is aggro on the way to camp, so Sneak and Invisible spells or items, or a Chocobo to get to camp is needful. A warp item will save a long walk home.

Troll Hoplites Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Woodtroll Dark Knight 72-73 Wajaom Woodlands
Woodtroll Warrior 72-73 Wajaom Woodlands

Zone into Wajaom Woodlands and proceed to C-8 on the map. In the south part of this area there is a tunnel that zones into Halvung, this is a safe camp. There will be sight and sound aggro on the way to it, so take precautions. Taking a Chocobo to camp is a perfect solution. Hopefully the Chocobo stable NPC has not been kidnapped! At this camp you will find four Trolls, only two, the armored Hoplites can teach you the spell. This camp is slightly better then the Thickets camp because you will have two targets rather then one.

Pull the Trolls down to the safe camp and treat them like an experience monster. They do aggro and link, so take care with your pulls. You may need to kill the Cannoneer type Trolls to keep your pulls of the Hoplites clean. The Dark Knight Trolls will cast magic so silencing them is a plus.

A average party should have no problems in this camp.

Troll Hoplites Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Troll Shieldbearer (PLD) 71-73 Bhaflau Thickets

Zone into Bhaflau Thickets and proceed to F-8 on the map. On the west side of this area there is a tunnel that zones into Halvung, this is a safe camp. There will be sight and sound aggro on the way to it, so take precautions. Taking a Chocobo to camp is a perfect solution. Hopefully the Chocobo stable NPC has not been kidnapped! At this camp you will find four Trolls, only one, the armored Troll Shieldbearer can teach you the spell.

Pull the Trolls down to the safe camp and treat them like an experience monster. They do aggro and link, so take care with your pulls. You may need to kill the Cannoneer type Trolls to keep your pulls of the Hoplites clean. There are a few Date Eruca in the pull area, they will aggro to sound so take care. TheTroll Shieldbearer will cast magic, so silencing him is a plus, to prevent some impressive cure spells from making the fight much much longer.

A average party should have no problems in this camp.

A level 70 BLU/BST can solo the spell at this camp. It is likely possible to solo before 70 without Leave, but the need to conserve Leech pets makes that hard. Note that if you run out of Leeches, you may need to charm Tigers. Tigers have some charm resistance, which increases the risk of doing this, so not letting your Leech pets die is important. Keep Zephyr Mantle up for all pet swaps.

Pull the Trolls from F-9/F-8 and bring them to G-8. Using leech pets, you will be able to slowly deplete the Troll's HP. However, it takes a long time to kill them, because of continuous use of Diamondhide. Also if you get a PLD class you will also have to deal with them curing themselves.

Once the Troll is low on HP move in and finish it with Blue Magic and hopefully learn your spell.

Troll Hoplites Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Troll Gemologist (PLD) 71-75 Halvung
Troll Ironworker (WAR) 71-75 Halvung
Troll Lapidarist (DRK) 71-75 Halvung
Troll Scrimer (WAR) 78-80 Halvung
Hilltroll Dark Knight 79-83 Mount Zhayolm
Hilltroll Paladin 79-83 Mount Zhayolm
Hilltroll Warrior 80-82 Mount Zhayolm

There are Higher level Troll Hoplites in other areas. They are not much harder then the Trolls in Camp 1 or 2, but the zones have a bit more aggro, and camps are harder to reach. A basic experience party can deal with these, though the Hilltrolls take a lot of killing.

Troll Hoplites Hunting Grounds Camp #4
Name Level Location
Troll Destroyer (WAR) ??? Troll Mercenaries Besieged
Troll Forager (WAR) ??? Troll Mercenaries Besieged
